A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25
Message:
Generosity begins in the heart before it manifests in deed. A generous life is not reserved for those with rich resources, but rather for anybody whose heart has been formed by gratitude and trust. Generosity is often expressed through financial giving, but it includes the willingness to give your time to someone who needs your presence more than your advice, encouraging someone who is quietly carrying disappointment, listening without rushing to provide solutions, extending hospitality, praying faithfully for someone else's burden, or sharing knowledge that helps another person grow.
Generosity mirrors God's generous heart, which constantly offers life, love, knowledge, and mercy to His children, and living generously challenges fears such as the fear of not having enough. You naturally desire to keep what you have because you believe that accumulation provides security. Every act of unselfish giving weakens the grasp of fear, greed, and shortage. It teaches you to have a deeper trust in God's supply and reminds you that fulfilment comes not only from receiving but also from participating in God's work to bless others.
The wisdom of Proverbs points to a different reality: the person who refreshes others is also rejuvenated. This is not a formula for material riches, nor is it a guarantee that every charitable deed will result in instant visible rewards. To flourish through generosity, acknowledge that everything you have, including your abilities, opportunities, connections, resources, and experiences, is ultimately a gift from God. As diligent stewards, you are encouraged to use your gifts not just for your own advantage, but also to strengthen, encourage, and refresh those around you. And in that loyal giving, you'll frequently discover that God has been quietly renewing your own hearts all along.
Midweek Challenge:
Ask God every morning, "Who can I refresh today?" Respond intentionally; it could be through a thoughtful chat, a handwritten note, practical assistance, a monetary gift, or simply being totally present with someone who needs to know they are not alone. At the end of each week, consider how generosity has influenced both the lives of others and your own heart.
Prayer:
Father, shape my heart to reflect Your kindness by living with open hands and a ready spirit. Help me to see the needs around me and generously give of my time, resources, encouragement, and compassion. Amen.
