Letter from Reader: A Journey To Repentance
What mattered was that someone I believed in caused a wound that changed the way I viewed relationships, trust & myself inclusive.
PT,
You must post my testimony; I believe forgiveness was something I could decide to do. I was hurt by someone I hold dearly to my heart. I pray, forgive & try to move on; at least, thatâs what I thought it was supposed to look like. But this hurt runs deep; forgiveness becomes much more than a single decision. It became a journey and took longer than I expected.
What mattered was that someone I believed in caused a wound that changed the way I viewed relationships, trust & myself inclusive.
Though I rarely spoke about it, it followed me into my thoughts, my prayers, and my daily life. I replayed conversations in my head. I imagined different outcomes, and I wondered what I could have done differently.
Every time I thought I had moved forward, the pain would resurface; a memory, conversation, or a reminder would bring everything rushing back. I wanted healing, but I wasnât sure I wanted forgiveness. Then one day, you shared the conversation you had with someone and how he said he does not believe that forgetting is in the bible.
You said something that stayed with me for weeks: forgiveness and forgetting is often less about freeing the other person and more about freeing your own heart. Your inability to forget will always draw you back to point zero, where you have to start all over again.
And it changed my perspective, and I asked God to heal my heart, so every time the thought resurfaces, I say, my prayer was simple: âLord, help me to forgive.â God was patient, didnât rush the process, and He met me in it.
Today, I can honestly say that I am free because what happened no longer controls me. I wanted to share this testimony for anyone who may be struggling with forgiveness right now.
If thatâs you, please know this: You donât have to rush the journey. Healing takes time. Forgiveness takes grace. And God is patient with both.
Thank you, Mama, for prayers, reflections, and encouragement that helped me see forgiveness not as a burden, but as a pathway to freedom. God used your words to help me begin a journey I didnât know I needed. And on the other side of it, I found peace.
With gratitude,
