Few things can feel as overwhelming as making a major decision. Whether itâs choosing a career path, starting a new chapter, ending a season, pursuing a relationship, or stepping into an opportunity, decisions have a way of stirring questions within us.
What if I make the wrong choice?
What if I miss Godâs will?
What if the outcome isnât what I hoped for?
If youâve ever wrestled with questions like these, youâre not alone. I think many of us long for certainty. We want clear answers, detailed instructions, and reassurance that every step we take will lead exactly where we hope.
One of my favourite promises in Scripture is found in James 1:5: âIf any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God... and it will be given.â What a beautiful invitation. God never expected us to navigate life relying solely on our own understanding. He knew there would be moments when we would feel uncertain, confused, and unsure of what to do next. And rather than leaving us to figure it all out on our own, He invites us to seek His wisdom. Iâve learned that wisdom is different from information. Information tells us what is possible; wisdom helps us discern what is right. Information fills our minds. Wisdom guides our hearts.
And in a world overflowing with opinions, advice, and endless options, godly wisdom has become more valuable than ever. There have been seasons in my own life when I desperately wanted God to hand me a detailed roadmap. I wanted every answer before taking the first step. Instead, God often gave me enough light for the next step.
One of the greatest misconceptions about decision-making is believing that confidence comes from knowing everything. It doesnât. True confidence comes from knowing the One who does. When our trust is rooted in God, we can move forward without being paralysed by fear. We can make decisions prayerfully, thoughtfully, and faithfully, knowing that God can guide us even when we cannot see the full picture.
The key is staying close to God, because wisdom is not merely about knowing what to do but knowing the One who leads. So if youâre facing a decision today, big or small, take heart and bring your questions before God. Ask Him for wisdom and trust Him with the outcome.
And that is more than enough.
